Chairman Salmon Comments on President Obama’s Pending Cuba Visit
Washington, D.C. — Rep. Matt Salmon, member of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, today commented on the President’s plans to visit Cuba.
“The President has single-mindedly insisted on re-opening trade and travel with an island nation that has, for over 50 years, confiscated its people’s wealth and kept them living in abject poverty, tarnishing our reputation as a nation that cares about freedom and liberty. The President is on the wrong track with Cuba, and his visit (coming before any substantive changes in the living conditions of the Cuban people) implies an endorsement of a brutal and selfish regime.”
Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He is also a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
